Porsche Design fake proposed a revolutionary concept of custom clocks, enabling Porsche and watch enthusiasts to design a chronograph that suits their preferences for the first time. Since the establishment of Porsche Design Watch Company in Solothurn, Switzerland, it took nearly six years to make this highly diversified project possible. The web-based watch configurator based on the famous Porsche car configurator allows approximately 1.5 million different design configurations to create a unique timepiece.
Jan Becker, CEO of Porsche Design Group, said: “No other car manufacturer or watch brand currently offers this customizable exclusive plan. The color, leather type and decorative stitching of these chronographs are all from automobile production.” In Germany, customized watches can be configured online from July 1, 2020 and ordered through participating Porsche dealerships. In the United States, the program and the English watch configurator will be available on September 1, 2020.
Core: Digital Porsche Design Watch Configurator
The menu navigation and overall design of the new watch configurator are based on the perfect Porsche car configurator. Just like the Porsche 911 series, this watch can also be processed digitally and visually down to the smallest details, providing customers with the realistic appearance they dream of. Rolf Bergmann, Managing Director of replica Porsche Design & Timepiece AG, said: “The rendering model is based on CAD data from the designers of Studio FA Porsche and Solothurn’s engineers from Zell am See. These functions (including the price of each corresponding configuration) will be displayed in real time. The basic custom watch starts at $6,000, depending on the option selected, the price range may be as high as $12,500 and includes up to three additional leather straps. The order is only placed through a Porsche agent and the lead time is 8 to 12 weeks .
Case-Future Classic
The first step of the virtual clock configurator is to select the 42 mm case. Customers can choose a natural titanium case with glass beads sandblasted and a black titanium case with titanium carbide coated by PVD. Bergman continued: “Titanium and black-coated titanium cases are well-known for Porsche design timepieces. It originated from the designer of the Porsche 911, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. We will do nothing.” FAPorsche’s legendary design finds a contemporary interpretation in the case of a custom chronograph based on the Chronotimer Series 1.
Movement-a new internal chronograph movement
With the launch of Porsche Design’s tailor-made timepiece program, the new internal movement WERK 01.100 with a 48-hour power reserve enters mass production for the first time. The highlight of this COSC-certified movement is the customizable winding rotor, which uses the latest generation of Porsche 911 wheels. For the first time, Porsche Design offers a timepiece with fully customizable movement components. Nevertheless, the Porsche Crest is still clearly visible with the naked eye.
Strap-up to 300 different configurations
The extensive work of this procedure is most evident in the metal and leather strap, which comes in three sizes. The pop-up menu in the configurator makes selection easy. The metal bracelet is made of skin-friendly titanium, and all versions are equipped with individually tightened links. Like the variants in the case, they have sandblasted glass natural titanium or black coated titanium carbide. In addition, there are two different closing mechanisms to choose from: a butterfly clasp with side buttons or seven-step fine adjustment.
All leather straps are made of the same leather as the interior of the Porsche car and have 14 official interior color choices of the Porsche 911. The leather wristband is equipped with a butterfly buckle and side buttons for quick and easy release. For the stitches on the strap, 19 different colors of Porsche genuine yarn are provided, which means up to 300 possible configurations. Two other bracelets can be designed and purchased per order, and all the options of the configurator are still available for selection. The new quick-change side button system makes it easy to make changes without using any tools.
Custom dial and bezel
The dial is personalized with a colored ring, with a minute scale, in the style of a classic speedometer designed by F.A. Porsche. There are a total of 27 Porsche 911 exterior and interior colors to choose from. Customers can even choose personalized hands, customers can choose black classic essence or matte white sporty Performance pointer with red hints. The bezel of the watch can also be equipped with a traditional minute marker or tachometer to track speed or distance.
Custom laser engraving-the last touch
Upon request, every Porsche Design custom watch can be laser engraved on the back of the case to personalize the ultimate personality. This supplementary engraving can also be applied to the watch box, which is dedicated to the new watch. In addition, it can be required to mark the corresponding car visual effect on the watch box. The font and lettering on the back of the customer’s car can also be applied. Alternatively, customers can choose a graphic logo, such as the current 911 Carrera flying line.
