Jacob & Co.’s Bugatti Chiron tourbillon is equipped with a miniature W16 engine

Last year, Jacob & Co. announced the establishment of a long-term partnership with Bugatti, and subsequently released an “angry” supercar-style version of their Twin Turbo watch. Today, we are very happy to launch the first fully customized ultra-high-end watch jointly designed by Jacob and Co. and Bugatti.

This timekeeping miracle named “Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon” uses another extremely complex Jacob & Co. automata mechanism. This time it uses a miniature W16 engine, which looks like the driving force of Bugatti’s large 16-cylinder engine. Miniature copy of Chiron

The heart of this watch is the incredible JCAM37 movement, which is made of 578 parts and 51 jewels and measures 41.7 x 36 mm. The functions of the watch include traditional hour and minute displays, a first-rate one-minute tourbillon tilted to the user by 30 degrees, and most importantly, the extraordinary W16 sapphire engine block, as well as on-demand movement animations that make the pistons and crankshaft move around.

Another interesting detail about the Bugatti Chiron tourbillon is that the JCAM37 movement is suspended on all four corners, which means that the timepiece has joined the ranks of selected watches through the “floating” movement. The watch also displays power reserve indicators at 8 o’clock and 3 o’clock. There is an open working barrel that shows the remaining engine animation tension in the barrel.

If you turn the watch, you will see three handles, one for setting the time (on the left), the central handle helps you wind the movement (clockwise) and animation (counterclockwise), and the right handle acts as a push Start animation. The W16 show lasted about 20 seconds, the animation ran 3 times, and then you had to rewind the clockwork dedicated to it.

The movement of the miniature W16 automatic movement requires a lot of energy-for example, if the barrel can power the wholesale watch for 2 or 3 days, the same size barrel can make the W16 engine animation take a minute. But for most of us, just like spending a minute on the Bugatti Chiron is like a lifetime, this kind of animation will also appeal to all car enthusiasts and everyone else.

When the right valve stem on the back of the case is pressed, the barrel dedicated to the automaton starts to turn really fast, driving the crankshaft through a series of gears, which in turn makes the 16 pistons move up and down in perfect rhythm and geometry.

Jacob & Co. also said that the flying tourbillon on this watch is brand new. It is not as complicated as other watches, but because it is installed at a 30-degree angle to the wearer, it can provide a better viewing angle when wearing the watch and should have excellent timing performance.

The design of the case also mimics the front grille of the Bugatti Chiron, with the company’s iconic horseshoe grille and the cool white and red Bugatti logo. The case itself is made of titanium alloy with a black DLC coating on the surface, which is water-resistant to 3 bars.
