The watch itself is a perfect marriage of one of the world’s most revered supercars, the high-performance Bugatti Chiron, and the famous tourbillon watch, cementing Jacob & Co’s position as one of the world’s finest luxury watchmakers.
The New York-based watchmaker spent nearly a year developing the watch, and now has unveiled the new $280,000 Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon. The Chiron Tourbillon eclipses the results of the two companies’ previous collaborations, thanks in no small part to the watch’s stunning movement. Designed to “recreate the inner feeling of an iconic Bugatti 16-cylinder engine,” it incorporates a miniature model of the Bugatti 16-cylinder, 1,500-horsepower engine commonly found in the Chiron itself, complete with a miniature crankshaft and pistons. All told, the movement contains more than 578 moving parts.
Both brands pay attention to detail, with the crankshaft being made from a single piece of steel, which, according to Jacob & Co, is one of the smallest and most complex parts made in the watchmaking world. The entire “engine” mechanism is suspended on four automotive-type shock absorbers, further highlighting the craftsmanship involved, creating a fascinating feature that allows the mini Bugatti “engine” to move up and down as you move around the case, giving the impression that it is floating in mid-air. This patented design is unique to replica Jacob & Co and is currently only featured in the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon.
If you look closely, you can also see the Bugatti brand logo on the movement, complementing the realistic visual of the watch’s movement. This stunning piece sits beneath a large sapphire crystal, providing a clear view of the constantly spinning tourbillon movement while also correcting for any potential timekeeping errors that may occur due to gravity. Jacob & Co’s design was developed from scratch and took over a year to perfect.
Similar to the Chiron, the 60-hour power reserve is monitored by a car-type fuel gauge with a gas pump symbol, while a clear view of the tourbillon regulator replicates the iconic horseshoe shape of the Bugatti grille.
The artistry of this watch matches the fun and passion of the Bugatti from which it was inspired. This is most apparent by pressing the button on the side of the Chiron’s tourbillon, which causes the steel crankshaft to rotate, engaging the pistons that move up and down, just like a real car engine. That’s not all, for good measure, Jacob & Co has also included two turbochargers in the luxury replica watches that also spin when the engine is running. This feature is sure to delight car enthusiasts.
All of this is enclosed in a black titanium case that is inspired by the curves of the Chiron’s exterior. The watch comes with a black rubber strap that keeps the design simple and highlights the Chiron blue flashes on the watch’s hands and some parts of the movement.
