Hublot and Nespresso unite coffee and watch lovers around the world to launch the new Big Bang Unico made from recycled aluminum capsules and coffee grounds.
Two Swiss icons with a shared passion for innovation, sustainability and excellence, Hublot and Nespresso, have teamed up in a pioneering project to create the world’s first recycled and circular-based Utilized Big Bang timepiece.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin watch is the result of a year-long collaboration between Hublot and Nespresso. It symbolizes the brand’s commitment to environmental sustainability and their determination to create beautiful and functional products.
For the past seven years, Nespresso has worked with leading Swiss brands to develop new products from used aluminum capsules, all as part of its Second Life initiative. The watch is made from recycled Nespresso aluminum capsules and coffee grounds. The aluminum capsule translates into the case, bezel, crown and pushers. Recycled coffee grounds are used to make rubber and fabric straps. The rubber strap is made from a mix of recycled white rubber and coffee grounds, while the fabric strap is made from Scafé, a 100% recycled fabric made from 5% coffee grounds and 95% recycled polyester .
Hublot’s patented one-touch interchangeable strap system allows the wearer to easily switch between two strap options, making the watch both practical and versatile. The strap, in vibrant green, pays homage to the Nespresso signature ‘N’ engraved on the Master Origins Peru Organic capsule and crown.
Creating a watch that is both sustainable and beautiful is no easy feat. It took a year of research and development by Hublot and Nespresso to achieve the perfect harmony of colors between the seven different materials that make up the watch. This includes the anodized aluminum, the varnish on the dial and hands, the Hublot logo appliqué on the glass, the rubber for the strap, and the fabric, lining and hook-and-loop strap for the Velcro strap. This is a reusable object made entirely of oak, including its hinges.
