An easy-to-use travel watch with a minimalist style.
When you hear “Porsche Design“, your mind may immediately jump to the chronograph. With car connectivity, you are easily forgiven. However, don’t short-sell brands, but categorize them as making only one type of timepiece. If you do, you will miss it. The new 1919 Globetimer UTC is a watch that focuses on travel. It uses the ergonomic design of the familiar chronograph to make time zone conversion extremely easy. Globetimer uses a very Porsche design style case with wide open lugs and a stylish titanium or gold dial. You will get a simple time display enhanced by a central date hand and a central 24-hour hand (equipped with day/night indicator) for the GMT function.
There were four versions of 1919 Globetimer UTC at launch. Two titanium case with leather strap, one titanium case with titanium bracelet, and one solid 18k gold case with strap. The latter is clearly the best in terms of price, but the blue, black, and brown dials on the titanium models are all very beautiful and provide enough interest to make the originally clean-looking watch not look boring.
With the re-release of the Rolex Pepsi GMT-Master and the launch of the Tudor Biwan GMT, travel watches are now at an important moment, which triggered a certain renaissance last year. Porsche Design obviously wants to be involved, rather than providing something slightly changed on the common theme they have already passed, and developing something thoughtful to make them feel it thoroughly. Without an external rotating bezel, GMT watches can sometimes be cumbersome and cumbersome, but a simple push rod system seems to solve this problem. I can see that the GMT and date hands are a bit confusing because they look similar at first glance, but I want to look at the watch up close and in the metal before making any final judgments there.
