HYT H2 hydraulic mechanical watch unveiled

Hydromechanical Horologists, also known as HYT, finally released their second watch after the hugely popular H1 last year. The new watch is H2, which breaks new ground in terms of mechanical and visual interest, rather than just adding new complications. Our friends at HYT media partner Watchonsita are here to provide complete details for HYT. Before getting excited about H2, let us recall the meaning of H1 by visiting us here to experience the H1 watch for yourself.

Earlier this month, HYT shared a photo of the back of the HYT H2 movement with us here. Looks like a robot face, this picture is a prelude to a technologically stunning watch, it is about design and style as well as timepieces. HYT collaborated with APRP’s Giulio Papi to help design and produce the H2 movement. In short, the complexity of this movement is actually less than the first (with the sub-second dial removed). However, with the increase in power reserve and more complex architecture, the H2 movement is more technically challenging.

Unlike HYT H1, H2 will be part of a limited edition of only 50 pieces. This may apply to the entire series, or only to this version in the DLC black-coated titanium case. 48.8 mm wide, this piece is large and is responsible for its very impressive posture and visual effects. Of course, what remains is the green liquid hour indicator tube, which uses a bellows to push the liquid onto the hour scale. As part of the symmetrical movement, the bellows is now in the V direction, which also forms part of the dial. The 12 o’clock position is the dial-type balance wheel, and on the right is the crown function selector (let you know whether the watch is in neutral, time setting or winding mode).

The hours and minutes are displayed on a retrograde scale. The design has a very Urwerk feel, the reading time is very interesting and illegible. This is a difficult thing to achieve, because we found that most “experimental” ways to tell the time just sacrifice convenience. The dial also has a unique power reserve indicator in the form of an exposed spring! When the power reserve is full, the mainspring winds up tighter and loosens when it is used up. The hand-wound movement has a full eight-day power reserve when fully wound.

HYT makes no secret that H2 is characterized by high-end attractiveness and experimental technical style. The design of the movement is precisely “cool” and almost like a concept in its display. For collectors and lovers of modern gadgets, this timepiece just shrugs off the appeal of Patek Philippe and says to the rich, “Hey! What you really want is a large and expensive looking (and) expensive on your wrist. Cool stuff. This is not your grandfather’s watch.” Love it or hate it, this is the whole meaning of H2 and the HYT brand.
