On the 50th anniversary of his friend Jean Todt’s birth, cheap Richard Mille introduced three new models with Jean Todt’s name and favorite colors.
During the 2016 edition of Chantilly Art & Elegance, the brand celebrated with the man who wrote the greatest chapter in racing history in an amazing jubilee. Jean Todt and Richard Mille formed a strong friendship based on their shared passions: watchmaking, extreme technology and the automotive sector. As this special series demonstrates, the two men agreed to admit to each other the same obsessions in their respective fields, paying attention to details and requirements.
The RM 11-03 Flyback Chronograph, launched in September last year, is definitely a sports watch inspired by cars and their history. The RM 11-03 Jean Todt 50th Anniversary Edition uses a grade 5 titanium automatic movement, equipped with a new white and blue Quartz TPT™ case. This extremely light and durable composite material is made by stacking 600 layers of silica with a thickness of only 45 microns, and then impregnating them with the exclusive Richard Mille blue resin. Then heat the whole to 120°C before processing.
The case of the RM 050 Jean Todt 50th Anniversary Edition also uses blue quartz TPT™. This movement is equipped with a seconds chronograph adjusted by a tourbillon. The extreme skeletalization of the bridge and the bottom plate, coupled with the use of titanium and carbon nanofibers, makes it possible to lightly exercise, weighing only 9.5 grams, but with amazing performance.
This extraordinary mechanism also breathes life into the last product of the Jean Todt series: RM 056, which is housed in a sapphire case. Its structure and curvature require both human creativity and a long processing time, which is essential to achieve this level of ergonomics and finishing. Each box requires no less than 1,000 hours of processing time, of which 430 hours are used for grinding and 350 hours are used for polishing.
